Founder At The Showcase of Backup App at Youth and Security Submit
I had the distinct honour of being invited by Abuja Global Shapers and the Defence Headquarters to discuss the groundbreaking BACKUP Police Accountability Mobile Application. This app is a powerful tool for intervention and data collection in cases of police brutality. It empowers individuals whose rights have been violated to seek support, raise awareness on social media, and connect with organizations fighting against human rights abuses. It’s a game-changer in promoting accountability and combating injustice.
Kudos to CWCD as I had the pleasure of working with them for this venture.
During the seminar, participants delved into crucial discussions on the significance of an informed electorate for successful elections. While the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continually strives to revolutionize elections and enhance the country’s electoral system, the effectiveness of these efforts heavily relies on an informed and engaged citizenry. Recognizing this, the need to effectively harness technology for voter education took center stage during the event.
The seminar was a collaborative effort, made possible with the valuable contributions and support of various organizations, including Search for Common Ground, CDD (Centre for Democracy and Development), Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), ActionAid, YiSHDA Nigeria, YALI Network Abuja, situationroom psd, CIRDDOC Nigeria, FIDA Nigeria, Peace Education and Practice Network (PEPNET), Emergedata Pvt Ltd, News Agency of Nigeria, and many others. Their involvement and contributions significantly enriched the seminar, fostering a holistic and comprehensive approach to voter education and civic participation.
The insightful seminar served as a platform for youth engagement, knowledge sharing, and capacity building. Participants left equipped with a deeper understanding of their role in shaping the electoral landscape and utilizing technology to promote transparency, accountability, and active citizenship.
With the general election fast approaching, events like these play a crucial role in fostering an informed and empowered electorate. By combining the efforts of various stakeholders and leveraging the potential of technology, Nigeria takes a significant step forward in building a peaceful, digitally inclusive society.
